Ecclesiastes was likely written around 300 BC.  The author “Koheleth” uses a literary device to introduce himself as Solomon (or son of David) making true authorship unknown (was it Koheleth or Solomon?).  The book discusses the meaning of life and the best way of life and has had a deep influence on Western literature.  Several phrases from Ecclesiastes have resonated in American culture including “nothing new under the sun” and “a time to live and a time to die”.
