In general, gentile refers to anyone that is a non-Jew.  In the Hebrew Bible, it is one of several words translated from the words goy or goyim.  Depending on the Hebrew context, gentile may refer to nation, heathen, or people.  It is not a derogatory term although the first five books of the Old Testament looked upon gentiles of the day with intolerance and suspicion.
