Often regarded as the earliest of the gospels, the Gospel according to Mark is the second book of the new Testament and one of the four canonical gospels.  Although written anonymously, authorship is traditionally attributed to Mark the Evangelist, companion of Peter.  The Gospel according to Mark tells the story of the ministry of Jesus from his baptism by John the Baptist to his death and resurrection.  Written in Greek, the Gospel according to Mark was probably written around 60 AD or earlier, during Nero’s persecution of the Christians in Rome.  Mark is mentioned more than any of the other gospel writers in later books and was one of the last people Paul wrote to before his death.  Since it appears Mark was present at Gethsemane, watching the proceedings from a distance, some scholars believe the Last Supper took place in Mark’s home.
