Born at Stridon around 347 A.D., Jerome was a biblical scholar who produced numerous commentaries, historical documents, vast correspondence, and theological essays which provide an excellent peek into the early days of Christianity. He is most known for his translation of the Bible into Latin, later known as the Vulgate, which was the standard translation for the Roman church until modern times.
